In a move aimed at consolidating July's internationally-brokered ceasefire agreement, the two sides requested the OAU Secretary-General Salim Ahmed Salim in his capacity as the supervisor of the Neutral Military Observer Group (NMOG) in Rwanda to extend the group's mandate and mobilise additional resources to enable it fulfil its mission.
According to the communique, NMOG will identify and draw ceasefire lines between March 10 and 13.
The RPF on its part should withdraw its forces to positions they occupied prior to the February 8 offensive against government forces under the supervision of NMOG between March 14 and 17.
In order to create a conducive atmosphere for the continuation of the peace process, both sides vowed to refrain from negative media publicity and meetings likely to incite the people against each other.
Also to be avoided is new recruitment of military personnel, acquisition of new weaponry and distribution of arms to civilians.
Most rebels are exiles of the minority Tutsi tribe driven from Rwanda after losing a power struggle to the majority Hutus three decades ago. They invaded Rwanda from Uganda in October 1990 in an attempt to overthrow the Hutu-dominated goverment of President Habyarimana.
