PARIS, April 10 (Reuter) - France promised on Sunday that its troops in
Rwanda would not intervene in fighting between government and rebel
forces.

Our mission is a strictly humanitarian mission permitting French
nationals to leave Rwanda,
a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.

France has sent 460 soldiers and five military transport planes to the
devastated Rwandan capital of Kigali to evacuate its 600-odd nationals
in the central African country.

French radio quoted the rebel Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) as saying
it was prepared to attack French troops if they intervened in the
ethnic conflict.

French troops will not intervene, French Cooperation Minister Michel
Roussin was quoted by Radio France Internationale as saying.
