BRUSSELS, April 6 (Reuter) - The Belgian government on Friday urged the
United Nations to take stronger security measures for U.N. forces in
Rwanda.

It also decided unspecified measures to guarantee the safety of Belgian
nationals in the central African country, a government statement said
after an emergency cabinet meeting.

The government is extremely worried about the deterioration of the
situation in Rwanda and particularly about the threats against Belgian
nationals,
the statement said.

It has consequently decided on measures...to guarantee the safety of
Belgian nationals,
it said, giving no details of the measures.

The government expressed its indignation about the assassination of 10
Belgian blue berets, who died in the peaceful exercise of their
mission.
The soldiers were killed as they tried to protect Rwanda's
prime minister.

The government earlier put troops on stand-by to fly to Rwanda for a
possible evacuation of foreigners.
